Welcome to eru

What is eru?
#

In its essence, eru is a project designed to make your doom-scrolling worth remembering. The idea is to create a platform that can deliver memorable quotes, scientific theories, and interesting facts without the need for a boring lecture.

The one idea to rule them all

The name eru isn’t from this earth at all. It originates from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings universe, where Eru is the omniscient god of everything, with Eru literally meaning “The One.” While the project isn’t an all-knowing perfect being, maybe it can still help some people throw some bad habits into Mount Doom.

Why did I need eru?
#

Ever since its beginning, the Internet has been a platform where our attention is a hot commodity. Modern social media algorithms and marketing strategies are designed to keep us in the endless loop of scrolling. That got me to ask myself the following questions and start thinking about a solution.

  • When was the last time you went to the bathroom without your phone?
  • When was the last time you sat on any public transport without scrolling needlessly?
  • When was the last time you doom-scrolled and actually remembered what you saw?

On average, I spend 2-3 hours on my phone a day, which roughly equates to a thousand hours a year of phone time. What if all this time was spent differently?

This is where eru comes in. I wanted to make something to counteract the negative effect that doom-scrolling had on me. So what if I could actually learn something while scrolling? Let’s be honest, it would be a lot easier to have a healthy media platform than it would be to kick the phone addiction altogether.
